For many people, owning a motorhome is a lifelong dream. Motorhomes give people the freedom to travel wherever they want and to visit places they’ve always longed to visit, for the most part, on their own terms. Travel to new places, see new sights and live in the comfort of your own home.
Motorhomes are a smaller version of our real homes, and they are also expensive. They are packed with belongings which are important to us and need to be protected. Just like we always make sure that our regular homes are safe and secure, we need to take measures to make sure that our motorhomes are secure at all times.
The downside to living or camping in our motorhomes is that we can run into problems such as break-ins and other security-related problems. Luckily, today there are plenty of solutions to help secure your motorhome. In this post, we are going to give you a few tips for securing your motorhome while you’re out travelling, and even while it is not in use.
Be Careful Where You Park Your Motorhome
Whether you’re parking your motorhome near your house, when it’s not in use, or you’re travelling to your next campground and you need to park your RV it is extremely important to pay attention to your surroundings when you park.
If you’re parking it on your own property we suggest installing a home security camera to monitor it. When you’re travelling and you stop in a large parking lot such as at an attraction like an amusement park or at Walmart, always park your motorhome in a well-lit place where you know the security personnel can see it.
If you have to make a quick stop at a convenience store, an ATM or even at the gas station, don’t leave your motorhome unattended and if you have to, make sure to lock all doors well before leaving it, don’t give thieves the opportunity to get in.
Remember never to leave your personal information, bank details or credit cards in your motorhome when it is unattended.
Make A Wise Choice Of Campgrounds
The freedom calls and one of the best things about that freedom are that you can be spontaneous and go where you want, but we highly recommend that before you head out to a new campground you take some time to do a little research. Of course, it’s important to know if the campground you’re heading to has all the amenities you need but it is also important to find out a little more about the place. If the campground has a website, start by reading reviews from other campers. Takedown the address and contact numbers and give them to a friend or family member. While you’re on your travels you’ll meet other motorhome owners, they will recommend campgrounds they have stayed at, remember these recommendations, even write them down.
Always be alert when you are camping with your RV. Pay attention to any suspicious people you come across and take steps to keep your motorhome safe.
Invest In Good Secure Locks For Your Motorhome
Many motorhomes don’t come with the most secure locks on the doors and windows and unfortunately, many thieves know this. That is why we highly recommend having extra locks installed on your RV’s windows and doors. Today there is quite a selection of these locks and you can get a professional locksmith to install them for you and check the security of your motorhome. Of course, an important characteristic of these secure locks it that they are visible, which is good for scaring off any would-be intruder.
Secure Your Motorhome When It is Not In Use
Whether you’re out camping and you’ve left your motorhome for a few hours and gone on a hike or you are in-between adventures and your motorhome is parked near your home it’s always best to make sure it’s secure. The best way to do this is by installing the electronic deters such as immobilizers, alarms and tracking devices and if possible lock your RV behind a home fence. If this isn’t possible, consider using wheel clamps to discourage motorhome theft when you are parked.
